Both Harman and Margaret were voracious readers and so it is not surprising that their library ranked as one of the largest in the American West. It was kept on bookshelves covered by green curtains. The library is surveyed by the haughty gaze of the beautiful Duchess of Cleveland, mistress to England's King Charles II. Her oil portrait, hanging over the fireplace, was painted before 1680.
